To bring our own voice to the stage in a sacred context to interrogate it as other than itself, to play with it and relate to it, to peel and stitch space through the spatialized sound that is revealed on stage. Speaking Cables is a choreographic device for voice, cables and speakers. The compositional research, of Beckettian and Cagean inspiration, is articulated in monologues, choruses, dialogues and silences through a choreography that combines the experiences of acousmatic music – created to be heard through loudspeakers – and sound art, with the idea that loudspeakers are not only devices for sound diffusion, but also presences which we can enter into relationship. The goal of Agnese Banti’s research process is to create an open system that, through the improvisation of its compositional cells, allows the creation of an ever-changing dramaturgy in relation to the stage-acoustic space and the audience.
